The Northeast continues to dominate the top of Forbes’ America’s Top Colleges list — over half of the top 20 schools are in the northeast, including all of the Ivy League institutions.
The Ivies occupy the top spots of the Northeast top colleges as well — all eight are in the top 10 — but these elite institutions are not the only standout stars. Eight liberal arts colleges — Williams College, Swarthmore College, Amherst College, Bowdoin College, Middlebury College, Bates College, Wesleyan University and Wellesley College — are among the top 25 in the Northeast.
New to the top Northeast schools this year are New York University and Boston College. These additions are for city dwellers; located in the heart of New York City, NYU is the largest independent research university in the country, and Boston College is the oldest institute of higher education in Boston. These two join the ranks of other elite research institutions like Georgetown University, Johns Hopkins University and Carnegie Mellon University.
