TOOELE — Tooele police shot and killed an armed man on Wednesday.About 10:20 a.m., officers were near 1100 N. Main following up on a shooting investigation from Tuesday night when they were "confronted by a male in his 40s presented a firearm," said Tooele Police Sgt.
Colbey Bentley.Tooele officers shot the man and then rendered aid to him after it was determined to be safe to approach him, but Bentley says he was pronounced dead a short time later. The shooting occurred in a gravel parking lot.Police had been looking for a man suspected of shooting another man multiple times at a convenience store. About 11:10 p.m. Tuesday, officers were called to the parking lot of Quality Quick Stop, 188 N. Broadway, where they found a man in his 40s who had been shot multiple times."Officers arrived on scene and provided care to the male and secured the scene. The male was transported to a hospital via ambulance to receive care for his wounds. The individual who fired the shots left the scene prior to officers arriving," police said.Additional details on what may have prompted Tuesday's shooting were still being investigated.Jason Shaw, 43, was named a "person of interest" by police in that case. Bentley declined to say if the man shot by police on Wednesday was Shaw or if detectives were still looking for Shaw.Agents from the State Bureau of Investigation have been assigned to handle the investigation into Wednesday's police shooting.This story may be updated.
