Mandatory Credit: Brad Penner-Imagn ImagesNew York Islanders defenseman Tony DeAngelo will miss the next one to two weeks after suffering a lower-body injury, the team announced shortly before puck drop on Thursday night at UBS Arena against the Dallas Stars.

DeAngelo appeared to get hurt during the first period of Tuesday night’s 4-3 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks, when a turnover in the Islanders’ zone sparked a rush the other way. DeAngelo was unable to get back and ultimately scored the tying goal, and the veteran blue liner never returned. The 30-year-old, now in his second season with the Islanders, has been a solid fit on the team’s second defensive pairing alongside Adam Pelech. InThere is a sliver of good timing in his departure. Fellow veteran defenseman Ryan Pulock is back after a short absence due to a lower-body issue of his own. His inclusion in the Islanders’ lineup on Thursday night against the Stars ensured that Isaiah George, called up from Bridgeport, did not have to dress within a unit that already has extra D-man Adam Boqvist playing on its third pairing.Joe Pantorno has been the executive sports editor of amNewYork since 2020.
