Tomorrow, Justin Bibb becomes the 58th mayor of Cleveland after he’s officially sworn in just after midnight. 'This moment is ours. Cleveland can’t wait. I can’t wait. Let’s get to work,' writes Bibb ahead of his swearing-in.
When talking to people on the East Side or West Side or in any of the neighborhoods in between, there is an overriding message from them – Cleveland is hungry for change.
Shortly after midnight tonight, I will humbly accept the oath of office and join the legacy of those before me to become Cleveland’s next mayor.That is why we set out nearly a year ago to chart a new course grounded in a sense of urgency with the promise of equal justice and real opportunity for everyone. We built a multiracial and cross-generational coalition that spanned Cleveland’s East-West divide.
Now is the time for all us to work together. The grassroots organizers and activists clamoring for a city that prioritizes resident voices and advances social justice. Those with innovative ideas who are ready to create new businesses and good jobs but lack the necessary support or capital because they don’t come from the right neighborhood. Our dedicated city employees who keep us safe, pave our streets, and provide other critical services.
