In the stands after the game, Johnson junior shortstop Kayson Cunningham was crying in his father's arms. Cunningham, a Texas Tech commit, made an error in the sixth inning while attempting a double play.
Johnson's regional final disappointment fueled this season's run to state tournament “It was a pitching duel today for sure,” Gesell said. “And that guy’s a fierce competitor for us, and he showed it to everybody here.” Johnson was the only San Antonio area team to make it to the state tournament this season. This was the Jaguars' first time making it back to Dell Diamond since 2016. Pantuso, who was 1 for 3, was devastated after the game.
