Despite his success as Spider-Man, Tom Holland's box office record outside of the MCU has been filled with financial bombs and mixed reviews.
Tom Holland has not had the best of luck at the box office, proving that he still needs Spider-Man and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The British actor was cast as the MCU’s Peter Parker in 2015 and was praised for his new take on the classic hero. It was the catalyst for Holland’s career and earned him roles in films alongside big names in Hollywood, but Holland has yet to recreate the box office success of his MCU projects.

His drama films like The Lost City of Z and The Current War bombed at the box office, and his voice roles in films like Spies In Disguise and Dolittle were no different. While Onward wasn’t bad, it underperformed for a Pixar film. Chaos Walking was an unmitigated disaster.
Tom Holland's Box Office Flops Aren't His Fault Though Holland’s terrible box office record makes his career seem grim, most of the bombs actually weren’t his fault. His various projects have been plagued with unfortunate scenarios from bad timing to production setbacks. Holland has had quite a few roles that he received major praise for, such as his performance in The Devil All The Time, but they weren’t projects that he was the lead on, or received theatrical releases.
