Weary from weeks of fighting and embarrassing setbacks, House Republicans began a series of votes to choose from an initial group of more than a half dozen Republicans running to serve as House speaker, a process that was expected to take hours. Lawmakers are eager to get back to work, with many wanting to pass aid to Israel and address a looming government funding deadline, neither of which can be done until a new leader is approved by the full chamber.
