KUALA LUMPUR: Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan says he was unaware that The Rembau division, which he leads, had proposed for the top two posts in the party not to be contested.
He said that he was surprised that it was a delegate from his division who raised the matter during the debate on the presidential address on Friday .
"I knew nothing about this. They didn't tell me they would propose the non-contest motion," he said at a press conference at the conclusion of the Umno general assembly on Saturday . Mohamad was asked if it was planned that a delegate from his division, representing Negri Sembilan Umno, would propose for the two posts to be uncontested."I saw everyone standing up but I did not know why.The Umno general assembly on Saturday approved a motion for the president and deputy president posts not to be contested in the coming party polls.
This means that Ahmad Zahid and Mohamad will remain as Umno president and deputy president respectively for another term.
