Togo constitutional changes spark calls for popular protests
Togo's President Faure Gnassingbe gives an interview during a meeting to discuss the 20th replenishment of the World Bank's International Development Association, in Abidjan, Ivory Coast July 15, 2021.
“Large-scale action will be organised over the next few days to say ‘no’ to this constitution,” they said. The amendments also introduce a parliamentary system of government and shortened presidential terms to four years from five, with a two-term limit.
