Todd Haynes is speaking out after Joaquin Phoenix walked away from the director's gay period drama just five days before it was set to begin filming, calling the experience 'tough.'

The director hasn't given up on the project just yet, noting that it "may resurrect in a different form someday."with over five years of experience covering the latest in entertainment.
