I’ve been writing about video games, television and movies for Forbes for over 10 years, and you may have seen my reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. I cover all manner of console and PC games, but if it’s about looting or shooting, I’m definitely there. If I’m watching something, it’s usually science fiction, horror or superheroic.

The week has begun but before you get any actual work done, it’s time to warm up your brain with Strands . Or at least that’s what you can tell yourself. But first...The New York Times’ Strands puzzle is a play on the classic word search. It’s in beta for now, which means it’ll only stick around if enough people play it every day.

There’s a new game of Strands to play every day. The game will present you with a six by eight grid of letters. The aim is to find a group of words that have something in common, and you’ll get a clue as to what that theme is. When you find a theme word, it will remain highlighted in blue. You’ll also need to find a special word called a spangram. This tells you what the words have in common. The spangram links two opposite sides of the board. While the theme words will not be a proper name, the spangram can be a proper name. When you find the spangram, it will remain highlighted in yellow.“Some themes are fill-in-the-blank phrases. They may also be steps in a process, items that all belong to the same category, synonyms or homophones,” The New York Times notes.

We will start with the official hint from NYT and I will invent one of my own after to further things. The official hint is:Now we are getting into answer territory so the spoilers begin. We will start with the spangram and then move on to the other answers after that. The spangram is:So, they are all things you bang to make noise, but not necessarily all part of a drum kit as I was searching for things like SNARE and BASS and HIHAT but they were not there.

There are some longer words in here so I suppose it may not have been the easiest puzzle. I didn’t remember how to spell TAMBOURINE right away in any case. But hopefully this helped you.Our community is about connecting people through open and thoughtful conversations.
