KANGAR: The National Kenaf and Tobacco Board (LKTN) aims to receive 60,000 licence applications for the distribution of tobacco products by next year.

Its director-general Idris Mohd Salleh said the board had identified 60,000 premises across the country that needed to be licensed and to date, 16,000 licences had been issued for free.

"The licence to distribute tobacco products can be applied for free starting Jan 1 until Dec 31 and after that, a fee of RM150 will be imposed. "It can be applied online at the LKTN licensing portal or at LKTN licensing counters located in Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Perlis, Kedah, Perak, Johor, Melaka and Kuala Lumpur," he told Bernama recently.

Idris said LKTN started to introduce the licence on Jan 1, 2022 to prevent illicit use and trade. - Bernama
