at 9:59 P.M. local time, many people felt the effects of its expiration hours earlier, as Border Patrol officials appeared to have stopped letting migrants join the camp at Gate 42 sometime Thursday afternoon.
Brian Jose Maita Contreras, 29, and Oscar Adrian Izaguirre Brito, 19, sat in the sand on the Mexican side of the Rio Grande, looking wistfully at the camp on the other side of the river as tears trickled down their faces. They had already crossed over earlier in the week and had been deported Wednesday night. Officials dropped them at the end of the Zaragoza Bridge in Ciudad Juárez. Both men said they would eventually try to reenter but were unsure how.
Chronicle reporters spoke with some of the hundreds of people who braved harsh weather and dust storms at a migrant camp just south of the border wall on Wednesday.
