The only possible explanation for the catastrophic loss of pressure in the Titan submersible was a flaw in its engineering, a professional pilot has said.
submersible catastrophically imploded as it descended towards theshipwreck this week, and that is a fault with the engineering design of the capsule itself, a deep sea submersible pilot has said.on Friday that the repeated stress from trips to thewreck on a hull made from an unconventional material meant the vessel was"just not designed to withstand the pressure that it went down to.
An undated photo shows the tourist submersible Titan, belonging to OceanGate, beginning its descent into sea. After disappearing on Sunday, debris of the vessel was found by a robot on Thursday. But the discovery of the debris field confirmed the worst-case scenario, and that billionaire Hamish Harding, OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, former French Navy diver Paul-Henry Nargeolet, British-Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son, Suleman, are now presumed dead.
He explained that the laws of physics"are known" and"don't change," adding:"That means, from an engineering and operational point of view, we know how to do it; it's not something that needs to be discovered." The Challenger Deep, part of the Mariana Trench in the Pacific Ocean, is the lowest known point under the sea and was explored in July 2022. It has a depth of nearly 36,000 feet. Thewreck, meanwhile, sits at around 12,500 feet below sea level—still far lower than most submersibles can travel.

The entire expedition began in early May in St. John’s, Newfoundland, in Canada and was expected to last until the end of June. That's according to documents filed in a federal court in Virginia that oversees matters involving the Titanic shipwreck. Each mission lasted eight days, but it wasn't clear how many missions took place before the fateful trip – or how many were scheduled to occur afterward. Eighteen total dives were planned. The Titan vanished Sunday – the first day of its latest voyage.
