Tina Fey, actress, comedian, producer, and writer best known for her roles on NBC shows Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock, is reportedly being considered to replace SNL's current executive producer, Lorne Michaels.
The 78-year-old Michaels has been with the show since its creation in 1975 and stated last year that he had"no plans to retire" despite suggesting the previous year that he had"committed to doing the show until its 50th anniversary."The 50th season of the iconic sketch comedy show will start in fall 2024 amid a heated campaign season.
Fey is a former SNL head writer and Weekend Update co-anchor. She famously impersonated former Alaska GOP Gov. Sarah Palin on the show during the 2008 presidential election. The SNL alum went on to direct, produce and act in popular shows and movies, including Date Night and Mean Girls. The comedian has co-hosted the Golden Globes.Social media reactions to a possible leadership change at SNL were mostly favorable for Fey.
"30 Rock is one of the funniest shows ever. Maybe SNL can use some 'newer' blood as the show has tanked in recent years," one social media user said."They have to do something to get the respect and humour back," another person wrote.
