Newly appointed Gilas Pilipinas interim head coach Tim Cone shared that he actually reached out to his predecessor Chot Reyes and got the blessing when he took on the job for the upcoming Asian Games.
Cone, who was part of Reyes’ coaching staff in the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, shared that he was embarrassed to take the job after earlier stating that he won’t be taking the position Reyes vacated.
“He told me that he thought I was the best guy for the job. So let's give the confidence and step up you know, these guys have been behind me along the way,” he added while admitting that the vote of approval from Reyes, somehow, gave him the confidence that he could take the difficult and thankless job.
“RSA and MVP , they also said really nice things so I just really feel everybody has my back on this,” said Cone.
