The second phase will be between I-10 and Highway 281.A TikTok challenge has led to increased thefts of Hyundai and Kia cars nationwide, and San Antonio isn’t immune.
A Northwest San Antonio woman took to the social media platform to document the two instances her 2016 Hyundai Sonata was stolen — both times by someone who used a USB cord to start the engine.KSAT 12 after her car was stolen from her apartment complex Wednesday . “I’m just here minding my business, trying to make a living for me and my kids, and then I have to go through this again.”
A design flaw in Hyundai and Kia vehicles makes them an easy target, as thieves can quickly break off the ignition cycle and then use a USB cable or screwdriver to start the engine. This method works on 2011-2021 Kia models and 2016-2021 Hyundais that use a key to start. “SAPD is aware of certain Tik Tok trends occurring, resulting in vehicles being stolen,” Officer Ricardo Guzman said in a statement.
