Now that the legislation has passed, the next chapter of this story will play out in the courts. The irony is the government has a better case against TikTok if it relies on the argument that is worse, weaker, and less important than the one surrounding data privacy, since the new law in fact does nothing to protect U.S. user data. That inferior argument is that Tik Tok should be banned due to the Chinese government’s ability to manipulate the opinions of American users .
