Although banning TikTok wouldn't prevent young people from using other social media platforms, the experts believe TikTok poses the greatest risk. They advocate for broader bans on social media for all users under 16 and encourage parents and teachers to explore alternative activities for young people.

"Americans should welcome the disappearance of TikTok because the company is causing harm to children, adolescents, and young adults at an industrial scale," Haidt wrote in aover the weekend, after Congress passed a law to ban it unless its Chinese parent company ByteDance sold its stake in the app. Presidentsigned an executive order on Monday delaying the enforcement of that ban by 75 days, allowing millions of users to hop back online.
