Tiger Woods revealed more about his big decision to return to play golf at the TGL Finals event with The Masters looming.
surprised the sports world recently when he announced he was set to compete in his first golfing event this year, which helped spark buzz that he'll also participate in The Masters. On Tuesday evening, he made his official return for the TGL finals, competing on behalf of his team, Jupiter Links, in Match 2 of a best two-of-three competition.
The big news arrived that he would participate after having back surgery in October, and having not played in any During Tuesday night's big event, televised on ESPN and its various streaming platforms or apps, Scott Van Pelt spoke to Woods about when he made his decision. That brought additional comments from the golf legend about what went into his choosing to return to play.. “It’s been a while. You know it’s one of those things where I wanna contribute to the team. I’ve been a cheerleader along all these matches, and I just want to contribute.” Ashkay Bhatia replaced Woods for the Jupiter Links as an alternate while he was recovering from injury. However, Bhatia was away this week at the Hero Indian Open this week in New Delhi as part of the European tour. “Great group to be around. They have fought their hearts out for one another, and I just wanna be a part of it,” he said of his team at TGL. “I’m gonna be rusty. I haven’t played golf in a long time. I’m gonna try to do my best to help the team win a match in the first session. Hopefully, get out in the second session and get that one done,” he said. “As far as setting myself for the future, I think it’s just one step at a time,” Woods said after Van Pelt asked about him possibly being able to compete in future events. That includes The Masters, which begins next month, an event that Woods has won five times, with his last win occurring in 2019. Since that win, he's competed in other years at the event at Augusta National, but has been unable to get anywhere near the top of the leaderboard. As of this writing, DraftKings Sportsbook lists Woods as an overwhelming underdog to win The Masters, with +15000 odds. Scottie Scheffler tops all pro golfers with odds to win at +350 on the sportsbook. Odds refresh periodically and are subject to change.
