Marvel's Thunderbolts trailer unveils a terrifying new threat: the Sentry, a powerful superhero plagued by a dark alter ego known as the Void. Can Earth's heroes overcome this seemingly insurmountable challenge?
A sinister supervillain taunts Earth's Mightiest Heroes in a new trailer for Marvel 's Thunderbolts , hinting at a threat that could push them to their limits. The footage opens with a shadowy figure, seemingly Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, addressing the team, which includes former S.H.I.E.L.D. operative Ghost , disgraced super-soldier John Walker , and a weary Black Widow .
'You thought you were going to be some great saviors? You can't even save yourselves,' the villain declares while showcasing their power, brutally breaking Winter Soldier's unbreakable vibranium arm and tossing Red Guardian from a window atop Avengers Tower. 'The Avengers are not coming,' CIA Director Val testifies in the new footage. 'Who will keep the American people safe?' Black Widow, visibly defeated, confides in the group, 'We can't do this. No one here is a hero.' The trailer then shifts its focus to a forgotten superhero of Marvel's Silver Age, the Sentry. A comic-book-within-a-comic book reveals the Sentry's origins as high school freshman 'Robby' Reynolds, who, after ingesting a vial of an experimental chemical serum, gained the 'power of a million exploding suns.' The Sentry, as he was known, took it upon himself to 'watch over the world.' However, the story takes a dark turn as the Marvel Universe forgets his existence, as if he had never existed. Meanwhile, the Sentry tries to warn the heroes of the return of his arch-nemesis, a dark entity known as the Void. The comic reveals the secret of the Sentry: Bob Reynolds and the Void are one and the same. The Void, a black shroud seen enveloping New York City in the trailer, represents Bob's villainous counterpart. The mentally ill Bob, through the Golden Sentry Serum, created two personas: the golden boy superhero Sentry and his villainous counterpart, the Void. In a shocking twist, the Sentry/Void is later recruited to Norman Osborn's Dark Avengers, a villainous team masquerading as the Avengers. The trailer's ominous ending suggests that the Sentry/Void's chaotic power, fueled by the mysterious serum, could pose a grave danger to the world.
