Three beachgoers were stabbed while hundreds of teens took over packed New England beaches in separate incidents on Tuesday, sparking fights and forcing evacuations of the summer hotspot.
The suspected stabbing broke out just after 3 p.m. Tuesday at Narragansett Town Beach, a popular summer vacation retreat in southern Rhode Island, as temperatures reached into the 90s. A fight breaks out as hundreds of teens swarmed the Narragansett Town Beach in Rhode Island on May 19, 2026. It was not known if the victims knew each other or if the stabbing was random.
The wounded victims were treated by first responders before being transported to local hospitals for minor injuries, Rekas said. The commotion from the stabbings sent the crowded beach into a frenzy as hundreds of beachgoers raced to flee the area.
“Due to the chaos on scene with hundreds of people attempting to leave the beach at the same time, several other small disturbances broke out,” Rekas said. The large crowd began to swarm the area around 12:45 p.m. and was peaceful until one beachgoer started to harass a large group. As police detained the unruly man, a second man began to assault the officers, which sparked the larger group to become out of hand, according to officials. Another beachgoer revealed that a large fight had broken out during the mass eviction.
Several teens — between the ages of 17 and 19 — were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and obstructing an officer. Ronan Pinkham, an 18-year-old from Massachusetts, is accused of striking a Newport police officer with his car in the parking lot as he attempted to flee the scene. He was charged with felony assault and DUI. A fight breaks out as hundreds of teens swarmed the Narragansett Town Beach in Rhode Island on May 19, 2026.
