Three sailors have survived a major scare overnight after they were rescued from a series of harrowing shark attacks that severely damaged their vessel.
The trio were on a catamaran in the Coral Sea, about 835km south-east of Cairns, when they were rescued about 1.30am Wednesday.

Picture: AMSA They are due to arrive in Brisbane on Thursday morning after AMSA called for the help of Panama-flagged carrier Dugong Ace and the Cairns-based Challenger Rescue Aircraft to the scene.
