While their best hitters have been elite and the pitching staff has excelled despite injuries, the Dodgers are falling a bit short of expectations. Deesha Thosar explores three reasons why.
In many ways, the Dodgers are right where we all expected them to be two months into the season. They’ve led the National League West since April 1. Shohei Ohtani, focusing only on hitting while he recovers from elbow surgery, quickly settled in after the gambling scandal and has the fourth-highest OPS in MLB. Mookie Betts' OPS ranks seventh and Freddie Freeman's is 15th. The pitching staff, for all its injuries, has the third-best ERA in the sport.
