Three people suffer life-threatening injuries in head-on crash near San Diego Zoo Safari Park [Breaking]

Three people suffered life-threatening injuries Tuesday afternoon in a head-on collision on San Pasqual Valley Road near San Diego Zoo Safari Park, San Diego police said.

The collision occurred shortly before 4:15 p.m. when an 18-year-old driver heading west on San Pasqual Valley Road lost control of his Honda Accord, crossed over a double yellow line and collided head-on with a pickup driving west. Police said the teen driver and two passengers in his car suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash. It was not immediately clear if the 54-year-old driver of the Dodge Ram truck was also injured.According to an online log, San Diego Fire-Rescue dispatched a total of 55 people to the scene — paramedics, firefighters and a helicopter — to help extricate the injured people from the vehicles.

San Diego police said it was not known if either driver was impaired by drugs or alcohol. No other details were immediately available.
