The reopening talk is solely centered on Three Mile Island Unit 1, which operated successfully from 1974 through 2019, when its then-owner Exelon said that its operational costs meant its power could no longer compete with the cheap natural gas flooding the energy market.
A copy of the Pennsylvania tax credit proposal obtained by PennLive.com this week allowed for a tax write-off of up to $100 million per year for up to three years for any payer that invested a minimum of $600 million in a project that produced “reliable baseline energy” and created at least 550 jobs.
Sen. Gene Yaw, R-Lycoming County, chair of the Senate Environmental and Energy Resources Committee, said he would need to know much more about the feasibility of the Constellation project before signing up the state as a partner.
