Three men in Australia have been charged after allegedly performing a Nazi salute near a Jewish museum. Anthony Mitchell, Ryan Marshall and Daniel Muston deny the charges, claiming they were mimicking a comedy skit by British comedian Ricky Gervais.

During an interview with NSW Police, Mitchell made multiple references to a performance by British comedian Ricky Gervais – a segment of which was introduced as evidence during a hearing at Sydney’s Downing Centre on Monday. Mitchell told police he was mimicking what Gervais had done in the comedy skit after seeing it on Netflix, prosecutors told the court.
Muston tells the officers that people make jokes all the time and that people have become “too sensitive”.
