Eighty basketball games tipped off Thursday as the 19th annual McDonald's Texas...

The referees hold a mid-court meeting with Converse Judson and Spring Branch Memorial players prior to their Texas Invitational game Thursday. The South Houston, Pasadena Memorial and Deer Park boys basketball teams earned berths to Friday and Saturday's McDonald's Texas Invitational Division II Gold Bracket after each enjoyed 2-0 ledgers during Thursday's 80-game pool play competition at 10 sites.

Deer Park constantly led La Porte, but head coach Ryan Bright's crew could never shake them. That's why late in the contest it was only a two-point game with the Deer leading 45-43. But that's when the Deer finished the game with a 9-0 run. Offensively, defensively and rebounding all played a part in putting the victory on ice.

Anderson made his presence known again with first a steal and then the bucket, salting the contest away, before Ryan Clemons scored the final points. South Houston, Pasadena and Sam Rayburn all went 0-2 in Thursday's pool play. The three will play at 1:30 on Friday, hoping to get one win, before starting bracket play on Saturday, likely in the moring.
