Three educators from Newman International Academy are facing felony charges related to allegations of child grooming and improper relationships with students. The arrests follow a report from two 7th-grade girls, leading to a swift investigation and the apprehension of an instructional aide, a teacher, and the principal.

Three educators from Newman International Academy are facing felony charges, including improper relationship with a student, child grooming , and tampering with evidence . The allegations stem from an ongoing investigation launched after two 7th-grade girls reported suspicious activity. Police and school officials held a news conference to address the situation, revealing that instructional aide Ruel Barbee was arrested on February 6th after the girls came forward.

Barbee was charged with improper relationship between an educator and a student. Following a week-long investigation, police arrested a second educator, identified as Little, on a felony charge of child grooming. Little was released after posting a $15,000 bond. On February 12th, Gibbins campus principal Rick Adams was arrested and charged with five counts of tampering with evidence, tampering with a witness, and failure to report abuse, all felonies. Adams remains in custody on bonds totaling $50,000. NIA police stated that both Barbee and Little were immediately terminated, while Adams resigned after initially being placed on administrative leave with pay. The school district has also placed an athletic director, a girl's basketball coach, and a part-time assistant football coach on paid leave pending the outcomes of both criminal and administrative investigations. Chief of Police Matthew Antkowiak emphasized the swift action taken by his department, noting that Barbee was in jail within five hours of the initial report. He also revealed that background checks for Barbee, Little, and Adams did not disclose any previous history of trouble. However, Antkowiak hinted that there may have been prior investigations involving these individuals at other institutions. He stated that his department has uncovered incidents at other educational institutions and churches where appropriate action was not taken despite knowledge of potential wrongdoing. Antkowiak pledged to hold all responsible parties accountable and vowed to continue investigating all leads, regardless of their location. He emphasized the importance of reporting any suspicions of abuse and urged victims to speak up. Antkowiak personally shared his experience as a victim of child sexual abuse, stating that he would not tolerate such behavior and would ensure justice for victims. He further stated that his department would actively examine whether institutions had failed to report illegal sexual contact to law enforcement as required by law, serving search warrants on institutions that came under scrutiny
