As the North American women’s soccer calendar is coming to an end, there’s still one last push for 2022: the final FIFA international window of the year.
Just two days removed from the end of the 2022 NWSL season, United States Women’s National Team head coach Vlatko Andonovski announced his 24-player roster for the November camp.
Three familiar faces will get a chance to end the year on a high note, as Sophia Smith , Lindsey Horan and Mallory Pugh were called into the final camp. CU alum Taylor Kornieck also got the nod. The U.S. will face Germany on two occasions, at 5 p.m. MT, Nov. 10 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., on FS1, and three days later at 3 p.m. at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J., on ESPN.
The games come a month after the U.S. lost back-to-back matches against England and Spain — breaking a five-and-a-half-year run of avoiding losing streaks. While there aren’t many matches for the U.S. left ahead of next year’s World Cup, Andonovski confirmed that the team is working to play nine games next year.at the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, with all of its group-stage games set to be played in New Zealand. The Americans will face the Netherlands in a rematch of the 2019 final, Vietnam and a third team to be determined.
“Every game is important and now that we know what the pathway to winning the World Cup is going to be, now we can dive a little bit more into the details,” Andonovski said.
