28, in Longview, Texas.— These days, the hot topics in the headlines are about politics and what the future holds for Dallas City Hall. But a couple of weeks ago, we had one of the most brave and heroic feats accomplished in Longview. The high-altitude hot air balloon rescue of two people whose balloon struck a cell tower is quite the story – one to remember for years. Those Longview firefighters who braved the height and rescued the occupants of the balloon should be celebrated and showered with accolades. They are modern-day heroes. —Re: “Sorry, kids. Vacations are going child-free — Adult-only trips growing in demand," Feb. 22 news story. Three cheers for this story about more adults preferring adult-only cruises and to the cruise lines for offering them. As longtime, brand loyal cruisers, we were dismayed and disappointed in the cruise we took in January, primarily because of the multitude of infants, toddlers and early school-age children along with what appeared to be many, many school-age children. Most of them possessed zero social skills or common manners. Loud children at every meal, every show and excursion did not make for the 70th birthday celebration cruise we had hoped for. Granted everyone is free to take the trip they want to, but going forward in retirement, having raised our children and they raised our grandchildren, we will be opting for adult-only cruises when traveling as a couple.Anton Skell has contributed many letters to the editor that I have mostly disagreed with, but his Three Cheers letter about the Plano Fire Rescue paramedics, who saved his wife, was so beautiful that you could feel all his emotions. I would like to wish his wife, Donna, a quick recovery, and to both Anton and Donna, many more years together.Dallas Morning News editorials are written by the paper's Editorial Board and serve as the voice and view of the paper.
