About 70 firefighters were at the scene to fight the three-alarm blaze that started about 10:15 p.m. in the 1700 block of 24th Street, according to a social media post from the Oakland Fire Department.Fire crews kept the fire from spreading from the roofing supply company’s main building and into its back yard, fire officials said. Other buildings nearby were not damaged.
Firefighters contained the blaze in about two hours but were still working to extinguish it completely early Thursday. Crews stayed at the scene past sunrise to monitor hot spots and keep the blaze from flaring up again.
