The exact number of people experiencing internet interruptions was unknown Sunday, but Xfinity’s outage map showed multiple outages affecting thousands of Denver residents.
Thousands of Xfinity customers across Denver lost internet access early Sunday morning, an issue that continued into the evening.“Something is causing our network to not perform in the way we expect,” an alert read under the cause section of multiple outages on the map.
The map’s legend caps outage impacts at a label of “more than 2,000 customers” and doesn’t specify the number of people affected. It also doesn’t specify the number of customers affected within the smaller ranges, only that the number lies within the range. Internet outages were reported at about 4:30 a.m. in Glendale; 5 a.m. in Denver’s Windsor neighborhood; and 8:45 a.m. in Civic Center, Capitol Hill, Cheesman Park, North Park Hill, City Park and the Central Business District, according to the map. At least one power outage started in eastern Denver at about 4:22 a.m., including parts of the Windsor neighborhood, according to Xcel spokesperson Michelle Aguayo. A car hit a power pole and knocked down multiple power lines, Aguayo said. The power outage impacted just under 7,600 customers. Power was restored to most homes in the area by 6 a.m., but nearly 1,000 were left without power until the pole was replaced at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
