Figures from the DWP show the amount that's been underpaid to households has risen from £410 million the previous year
Thousands of people across the UK may be due a cash boost after the Department for Work and Pensions identified underpayments of £680million to households on Universal Credit.
Below are listed the monthly rates for the main components of Universal Credit for the financial year from April 2023 to April 2024. Everyone gets a standard allowance then additional elements can be added for having children, disabled children, limited work capability, caring responsibilities, and childcare costs.Childcare costs amountFor Universal Credit claimants, a housing element is built-in as a replacement for Housing Benefit. It varies for each claim.
Some people may find themselves with a rent far higher than the amount covered by their Universal Credit payment. Moving to cheaper housing in the same area may be an option to consider for the future but if your Universal Credit does not cover all the rent, you can also ask the local council for a Discretionary Housing Payment to make up the difference.
