The Venezuelan Prison Observatory , a non-government organization specializing in the defense and promotion of human rights of prison inmates, is documenting the strikes.
The inmates also demanded the “immediate release” of individuals experiencing procedural delays, anyone over the age of 70, those who are in poor health, and those “who cannot be cared for in the detention centers.” In a video that OVP published on Sunday, inmates from the Bolivarian National Police’s detention center in Caracas’s La Yaguara neighborhood pledged to join the protests and demanded the release of anyone who has already served half of their sentence.
