Thousands of demonstrators are expected to gather for a peaceful protest near the Immigration and Customs Enforcement processing facility in west suburban Broadview on Saturday morning.The organization American Opposition will lead Saturday's demonstration.
Organizers, along with up to 5,000 people, are expected to peacefully protest near the facility in response to immigration operations across the country. The Broadview Police Department is working closely with Illinois State Police, the Cook County Sheriff's Office, and other law enforcement organizations to keep people safe during the protest.Of course, Saturday's demonstration comes as clashes between protesters and immigration agents continue in Minneapolis, especially after Good's shooting death less than two weeks ago. And just days ago, tensions flared up in that city once again after a federal agent shot an alleged undocumented immigrant in the leg during a traffic stop. The Department of Homeland Security says the agent was also attacked. Demonstrators could be seen throwing fireworks in response as agents deployed chemical irritants.into Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, looking into whether they may have obstructed law enforcement activity in the state. Saturday's demonstration is set to start at 10 a.m. and run until 3 p.m. Road closures are expected in the surrounding area. Law enforcement also reminded people planning to demonstrate to stay within the designated protest zones.
