Campaigners say 'justice delayed is justice denied' for those affected

Campaigners fighting against Government changes to the retirement age say 250,000 women affected have died since their fight began. The Women Against State Pension Inequality campaign was launched after the Department for Work and Pensions increased the state pension age for 60 to 65.

An initial investigation ruled that the DWP did not communicate the changes with enough urgency. A final report will eventually recommend what level of compensation should be paid by the Government to the affected women, but campaigners say action is needed now.Susan Taylor, an affected WASPI woman whose sister died in 2019, said: "Both my sister and I were born in the 1950s and had our retirement plans completely devastated by the State Pension age fiasco.

"It pains me to think that she will never see the end of our campaign but I'm even more determined to fight to have our injustices properly recognised on behalf of all the women who are no longer with us." "The Ombudsman’s investigation has been going on for five long years, and it is two years since it confirmed the DWP was guilty of maladministration. To keep women waiting a single further day for a proper offer of compensation just shows an appalling disregard for all of us."
