A bible known as the Codex Sassoon—the oldest nearly complete volume in the world—will be auctioned this spring by Sotheby’s, which expects it will bring between $30 million and $50 million.
The 1,100-year-old Hebrew tome is owned by Jacqui Safra, the Swiss investor from a famous banking family who has produced some of Woody
Allen’s films. Safra, who is reportedly worth $500 million, also owns the Encyclopedia Britannica and a vineyard that filed for bankruptcy last year.
