Sisters Alyssa and Gisele Thompson make history as the third sister duo to be named to the USWNT roster for the SheBelieves Cup. Coach Emma Hayes highlights their potential and the tournament as an opportunity for their development.

Sisters Alyssa and Gisele Thompson have been called up to the United States women's national team roster for the SheBelieves Cup. The Angel City FC teammates are the third sister pairing in USWNT history to be named to the same roster, following the Fair sisters (Lorrie and Ronnie) in the late 1990s and the Mewis sisters (Samantha and Kristie) on the 2021 Olympic Team.

The tournament, which also includes Japan, Australia, and Colombia, kicks off on February 20th with the USWNT facing Colombia and Japan facing Australia at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston. Three days later, action moves to State Farm Stadium in Arizona, where the USWNT will meet Australia and Colombia takes on Japan. The tournament concludes on February 26th at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, with the U.S. facing Japan and Australia playing Colombia.Gisele, 19, trained with the first team in June but is yet to make her senior national team debut. She was a member of both the 2022 FIFA U-17 World Cup and last year's U-20 World Cup rosters and is one of four teenagers on the SheBelieves Cup 23-player roster. Alyssa, 20, returned to the national team last October after a period away. Coach Emma Hayes commented on the development of both sisters, emphasizing the need for Alyssa to understand her role in and out of possession. She highlighted Gisele's attacking qualities from a fullback area and expressed a desire to see her progress towards the level of Emily Fox. Hayes sees this tournament as an opportunity for both Thompson sisters to showcase their skills and contribute to the team's success. Alyssa expressed her excitement for the future, stating her happiness to continue playing with Gisele and helping contribute to the club's success. Additionally, Washington Spirit defender and Newbury Park native Tara McKeown received her first senior national team call-up.
