The Prime Minister has argued that the Indigenous Voice to Parliament could ultimately save taxpayers money, despite a hefty referendum price tag.

The Labor leader argued that the Voice advisory body isn’t a third chamber of parliament but that it could potentially help direct funds on Indigenous matters more wisely.

“I think this will save money. And the reason why it'll save money is that everyone knows that there’s been billions of dollars expended on education, health and housing,” he told WSFM radio on Thursday morning. “If the money is spent better and more efficiently and in a way that gives people that ownership over the way that programs are run by being listened to, the Voice won't run any programs itself, it won't be a funding body,” he said.
