If you’re partial to a YouTube beauty tutorial binge, listen up: this weekend, local Toronto beauty salon Rebel + Beauty is hosting a beauty masterclass IRL focused on holiday makeup. Tucked away on Bay Street in Yorkville, the chic space is the brainchild of Olga Onulov and is a firm favourite of the fashion set in the city for I-woke-up-like-this brows and more.
This weekend’s event marks the final masterclass of the year and will zero in on two unique holiday-ready looks for the busy month ahead. Speaking with FASHION about the event, Onulov said, “Makeup is a means of self expression and we want to empower all of our clients with the skills to express themselves. We want to take away their fear of makeup and show clients of all levels that they too can create a striking look for the holidays. We wanted to create a safe haven for people of all ages, races, sexes, sexual orientation. We just want to be able to educate and give everybody all of the tools necessary in order to feel incredible!” Happening from 12-3pm, the event will feature a live makeup demonstration from Rebel + Beauty’s Head of Makeup Mandee Roth and Lead Artist Taylor James, who collectively have over 15 years of industry experience across fashion, film and theatre. “You’ll get to see two completely different holiday looks in real-time,” says Olga, adding that attendees will then have the opportunity to ask questions and play around with the products in their goodie bags, courtesy of NARS, Shu Uemura and Usana Skin, to recreate the looks on themselves – all in between a glass or two of champagne. For those that can’t make it to the class, Onulov was happy to share her wisdom on how to add a little glam to your look during the holidays without going overboard . Her advice? “When taking that extra step with your makeup this holiday season, pick one feature and make it sparkle. Whether that’s adding a pop of glitter on the eyes, making your skin extra glowy and dewy, or spicing things up with a bold lip.”
