A Texas law firm is moving its entire office to Portugal for a month this summer. Here's how it's making it work.

Managing partner Kevin Vela said he's booking a coworking space and inviting families and clients.Big Law firms are still trying to strike the right balance between working home and working from the office. One smaller firm is trying to stand out with a new approach: working from Portugal.

Stacey Breen, a recruiter for Major Lindsey & Africa, said lawyers have been trying to rebuild camaraderie after being mostly remote for so long, largely through small get-togethers. Breen said lack of childcare is still a big barrier to getting people back to offices and in-person meet-ups. "Four or five years ago, we allowed people to start working remotely for a month at a time," Vela said. A handful of employees took advantage of the firm's offer, jetting off to places like Peru and Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, before the pandemic put a damper on global travel, he said.
