Predicta CEO Kate Caves with cofounders Gad Getz, Irene Ghobrial, Ken Anderson and Romanos Sklavenitis.ver 35,000 Americans are diagnosed with a blood cancer called multiple myeloma every year. But figuring out a patient has it isn’t easy — doctors still rely on invasive and painful decades-old tests like bone marrow biopsies to make the determination.

Predicta’s lead product, GenoPredicta, works by taking a sample of blood and using genomic sequencers to identify the DNA found in the sample. It then looks for DNA that’s specific to multiple myeloma tumors, which identifies the presence of the disease. It also looks for other genetic markers that can be used by doctors to determine what treatment plan might be most effective.

Ghobrial’s cofounders aren’t new to the biotech space: Flaherty and Getz launched Scorpion Therapeutics in 2020, which raised $270 million in its first year and is now testing its breast and lung cancer treatments in human patients. Anderson cofounded C4 Therapeutics, which is developing new treatments for multiple myeloma and other cancers, in 2015; the company went public in 2020.

With the new funding, Predicta hopes to build its own lab and a new team to launch GenoPredicta on the market in early 2025, according to CEO Kate Caves, who joined the company in December 2023. After that, Predicta plans to raise another investment round to launch its second product, ImmunoPredicta, which monitors the health of the immune system in multiple myeloma patients. The company plans to move beyond multiple myeloma and into diagnosis of other cancers as well.
