Israeli startup Salignostics has developed a saliva-based pregnancy test, demonstrating the promise of saliva-based non-invasive, simple, accessible diagnostics.

The startup’s first commercially successful product is Salistick, a saliva-based pregnancy test. More than 500,000 units have been sold and ordered after it was launched earlier this year in Israel and the UK and made available for home testing via major pharmacy chains. Late last month, Salistickfrom Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration , making it available to consumers in Australia and New Zealand through SGG Solutions, an international medical distribution company.
The company plans to pursue U.S. FDA approval in 2025. The pregnancy testing market worldwide was estimated at $1.42 billion in 2022 and is forecasted to grow at a CAGR of 5.1% to $2.22 billion in 2032, according to Saliva contains over 5,000 identified proteins, many of which overlap with those found in the blood. By accurately detecting the pregnancy hormone in saliva, Salistick transforms the testing experience, enabling easy, non-invasive pregnancy detection from the comfort of home. “It removes the ick factor” observed, calling it “a world-first, detecting the beta human chorionic gonadotropin hormone in 10 minutes, with 95% accuracy.
According to a 2024 CDC survey, over 80% of women aged 15-44 prefer home tests for initial pregnancy confirmation, with online sales seeing a 25% increase in 2023.
