At 4:24 p.m., South Brunswick police, the Monmouth Junction Fire Department and South Brunswick EMS responded to a three-vehicle wreck on New Road between Route 522 and Route 1, where a 61-year-old woman died, officials said.“We extend our heartfelt sorrow to the family and friends of the resident who passed away,” South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka said in a statement. “We will continue to work with the prosecutor’s office to investigate all the details.”The 82-year-old driver told police she saw the flashing train lights, but was confused about whether she had stopped before the tracks or directly on them, according to law enforcement officials. The Conrail train pushed the car about a quarter mile down the road before coming to a stop. The driver was treated for minor injuries and taken to a local hospital.South Brunswick police and Conrail police are investigating.
