Johnny Cage Shao Kahn and Baraka from Mortal Kombat
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT A classic character is set to make their live-action debut in Mortal Kombat 2, adding plenty of excitement to the sequel. After releasing two live-action films in the 1990s, Mortal Kombat disappeared from cinemas for over two decades, but the 2021 reboot proved the gaming adaptation still had plenty of life on the big screen.
If Quan Chi's scene was included in Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, it would somewhat lessen his involvement in the 2025 movie. However, given this is the first real depiction of the character in a live-action setting, the original take on the villain will feel fresh and unique. Quan Chi is easily one of Mortal Kombat's most iconic antagonists, and while he will have plenty of other villains to compete with, there is no doubt he can make a big impression.
However, Quan Chi offers a more mythical vibe for the sequel as the demon's magic could add something different to the modern installments. He is also capable of reviving characters from the dead, opening up the possibility for some shock returns. His selfish nature and quest for ultimate power make him an intimidating villain who is willing to dispose of his allies, creating a truly powerful antagonist for the heroes to overcome.
