Name: Amanda Viola-BrookeAge: 35Hometown: Augusta, GeorgiaOccupation: Mental health therapist Time Running: Since December 2020, almost 3 years!Reason for Running: Running is something I have to focus on that brings me joy when my job as a therapist is stressful! In my job as a therapist, I have to spend a lot of my time focusing on other people. I work primarily with trauma survivors , and the subject matter can get heavy.
For the first time, running felt doable! I think a few weeks into that program I had the first run where I finished and thought “Wow that wasn’t bad and I feel accomplished!” That feeling of accomplishment became addictive. I then ran my first 5K for my 33rd birthday the following March and I never looked back! Now if I ever feel like I’m losing motivation, I usually just sign up for another race.
