An NBA probe found Suns owner Robert Sarver said the N-word at least five times and committed other acts of misogyny and racism, leading to questions about why the NBA didn’t ban Sarver for life.

Sarver from all team activities for one year and fined him $10 million, revealing the probe found he said the N-Word at least five times and fostered a hostile work environment, including bullying employees and making sexually charged comments toward and about women.

Though historic, the penalty fell short of the NBA’s 2014 lifetime ban of Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling, who was found to have similarly fostered a racist and toxic environment.Wednesday night the NBA “definitely got this wrong” and “there is no place in this league…for misogyny, sexism, and racism.”, writing “the sanctions fell short…of addressing the atrocious behavior.”

Tamika Tremaglio, the executive director of the league’s player’s association, backed the stars’ opinions, she expressed to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver she believes Sarver “should never hold a managerial position within our league again.”when asked why Sarver’s punishment fell short of being removed from the league, explaining: “There are particular rights here of someone who owns an NBA team as opposed to somebody who is an employee.” Silver also said the league never considered an outright ban for Sarver.
