Scientists may just have cracked the code as to why more men than women are dying of Covid-19, and it comes down to higher concentrations of a certain enzyme in their blood.

ACE2 sits on the outside of the cells that Covid-19 attacks, and it acts as a receptor which enables the virus to get in. Cardiology professor Adriaan Voors at the University Medical Center Groningen , who led the study, said: “ACE2 is a receptor on the surface of cells. It binds to the coronavirus and allows it to enter and infect healthy cells after it has been modified by another protein on the surface of the cell ... High levels of ACE2 are present in the lungs and, therefore, it is thought to play a crucial role in the progression of lung disorders related to Covid-19.
Every study has found the same thing: men infected with the virus are getting sicker than women and more men are dying.
