ThisIsUsFinalChapter star Chrissy Metz says she would love to return for a spinoff of the show.
Chrissy Metz is game to return as Kate Pearson in a This Is Us spinoff. NBC's family drama is down to its last few episodes before it wraps up its full run. But, if Metz is to be asked, she'll always say yes to reprising her role in the show as Number Two.
This Is Us follows the life of Jack and Rebecca Pearson and their three kids — twins Kevin and Kate, as well as their adopted son, Randall . Due to its non-linear storytelling, it tackles the overall story of the clan, starting from the parents' respective childhoods leading to their family life. In the present time, the show has focused on the Big Three's current stories with their own families.
“I mean, can you tell somebody something? I feel like many people want it, but I don’t know if it’s humanly possible, but you know, I think we’re all going to go and do our own things. I would love to come back to work with one of the castmates again, that would just be a dream. But yeah, a spin-off would be cute.”
Fogelman said that he raised the idea to NBC, who immediately greenlit the idea. But that still isn't an official confirmation that the spinoff film is happening. Even if the project gets greenlit, it might take a while to actually happen. As Metz said, most of the cast members have lined up new jobs as they transition out from starring in the family drama.
In the meantime, fans will have to focus on what's happening in the series. After Kevin's narrative, Metz's Kate is the next focus of the upcoming episode as This Is Us sets up the breakdown of her marriage to Toby . It's also worth noting that the character still hasn't been spotted in the flashforwards about Rebecca's death, which is something that viewers can look forward to.
